Last update: 1 October 2008
Some of our events in this half year will be:
- October 5-6 Orchestra Retreat
- October school break: in the retreat we will have the Christmas in October, and we will also present an early Christmas celebration to a community elderly home in Eastwood.
- 2nd of November (2nd): We have the invitation from Chinese Association of Sacred Music, we will be involve as accompaniment in the Hymn Praise night at West Sydney Chinese Christian Church. The songs will be selected from the last year's hymn festival, as well as the Easter program.
The coming practices: we would not at this stage disclose which songs are required for which events - but the practices are wisely planned in order for them to be ready. Truely, when you join the orchestra, you are participating in a church ministry, and attendance is important for the group and for the people sitting next to you. Practice dates: basically the last Sunday of each month, from July to November. July 27, Aug 31, Sept 28, Oct 26, Nov 30.
PLEASE NOTE The following provisional parts Placement: Since there are a number of new members joining the orchestra, we need to re-balance the parts. I have propose the following parts Placement until December. If you have significant issue on that, please let Wilson Fong know.
Strings: Violins have 2 parts. IF the music has 3 Violin parts: 1st-2 & 2nd play Violin 2; 2nd-3 play Violin 3
1st Violin: Douglas Sham, Rachael Wong, Giselle Hui, 1st-2 (play Violin 2 in 3 parts): Tom Li, Chatwin Lee
2nd Violin: Louisa Siu, Philippa Lo 2nd-3 (play Violin 3 in 3 parts): Annabel Hon, Michael Ho, Yan Mak
Cello: Sonia Sze, Samantha Hon, Angel Woo
Cello-Bass: Vivian Cham, Brian Yim, (Danial Sze), (Brass: Trombone)
Woodwinds: We are moving towards 3-Flute parts. The following arrangement assume music has Oboe.
1st Flute: Bonnie Ho, Jessie Li, Jessica Huang, (Grace)
2nd Flute: Michelle Sun, Brenda Zhuo, Crystal Tsang, Yan Tou Leung
Oboe/Flute 3: Ashley Wu, Samuel Yip, Jeffrey Hui If no oboe/Fl 3 parts, Ashley play 1st Flute; Samuel and Jeffrey play 2nd Flute. It is ok for Ashely to choose either oboe or flute.
Clarinet: Jonathan Lee
Saxophone: Jonathan Yip
Percussionists: (Here is the basic responsibility, can swap when necessary)
Cymbal: Justin Lee
Triangle: Anthony Chung
Timpani: Peter Chan
PLEASE - bring your folder and music stand to the practice.

Thanks for your hard work in the Easter presentations. Positive and encouraging feedbacks have been received, and many of the congregations are moved by the music and reminded of the love of Jesus. It is really a blessing to people, and to all of us as well.
At the moment there is no new assignment yet, even though we will expect something to happen during Anniversary, and later. We are planning for a day-retreat around October long weekend before term break. So we continue with our practices of some of the famous and popular religious music arranged for our orchestra.
Practice dates for April, May, June at 2:15-4pm West Ryde Hall:
April 27th (4th Sunday), May 4th (1st Sunday), June 22nd (4th Sunday)
I start to make score for Oboe and Trombone. If the previous scores don't have Oboe/Trombone, please see instructions in each song.
Hopefully the Brass group can be start soon - so that in 2009 we can be upgraded to a relatively full orchestra.
If there is any inquiries please contact Fanny 0403 313041 and Wilson 0411 215700. New instruments welcomed.

Thanks very much for those of us who participated in the Carlingford carols. A number of people really appreciate our sharing and I believe this is a very good way to remind the world that the centre of Christmas is Jesus.
In this Easter we have planned a worship/outreach music event. We will present a set of Cantata called Behold! God's Holy Lamb. The original version is in English with 6 songs together. Since we only have organised Cantonese and Mandarin choir in this stage so for this 1st year we chose to sing 5 out of 6 songs, and have the songs translated to Chinese, and transposed to CABC-orchestra-friendly version.
Vision: It is foreseeable that once we got an experience we will and can present it in English, in certain big regional townhall etc. (when the Top Ryde/West Ryde development finished I pray that we can present in the Easter over there), and can introduce people to meaning of Easter and contribute to the community at the same time.
January 20 2:15-4pm February 3 2:15-4pm February 17 2:15-4pm March 2 2:15-4pm
March 16 AT Marsden 2:15-4pm [rehearsal with choir] Extra Song: 156 Christ is Risen
March 23 (Sun) Marsden 1030am ready for presentation at Cantonese service.
Small Group extras:
* March 21 (Fri) 1130am-1245 [rehearsal with Mandarin choir]
* March 22 (Sat) 4pm rehearsal with Mandarin choir for 530 presentation. Finish around 6:15pm.
Small Group for Easter presentation for Mandarin
As Mandarin choir is relatively new and not many people, in order not to overwhelm the choir, we elect a smaller group of member in their presentation:
Strings: Douglas, Rosanna, Emily, Louisa, all Cello and Bass
Winds: Jessie, Michelle, Ashley, Samuel, Jonathan Lee, Jonathan
Percussion: Gary, Anthony
Pianist: Jana
If there is any inquiries please contact Fanny 0403 313041 and Wilson 0411 215700. New instruments welcomed.

Since the 4 Nov is our church's Extraordinary General Meeting, our orchestra practice will be postponed to 18 (Sun) November.
Our practices will be centered around Christmas songs. Here are our repretoire and please download and print ALL 8 of them printed and our practice will focus on those with *.
Note for Violinists, and Flutists: as some of you may have played it for the 4th year, for This Christmas only: this time you pick your own part you haven't tried. However, once you pick a part, you stick to it (eg. not playing Violin 1 this song and Violin 3 the other) and play the whole set in that part. I believe this will enhance our experiences in playing.
Of course in case the parts are unbalanced I still need to do some adjustments. I will encourage the more senior players to do parts that are relatively 'empty'. But these are all up to negotiations.
You may think: What if I download and print all the music of a part, and being assigned to another part? Good question - so you should also bring the original ones that you played last year, so that the whole set can be given/exchanged!

(July 2007)
Dear Orchestra memebrs
We will be practicing for the July 27th (Friday) evening celebration event. It is another church mini-concert and we orchestra will be accompanying for a short Christian story: The Three Trees. It is a short story with narrative and some acting to be done - quite inspirational and funny. Please also reserve July 15th (Sun) and 22nd (Sun) afternoon for extra rehearsal.
Wilson and Vivian are still working very hard on the music >_< Some music will be distributed on the practice. There will be about 8 to 10 sections of 16-32 bars orchestral music. Even though it may not be in the scale of Peter-and-the-Wolf, we wish that this new trial is something that all orchestra members can enjoy together.
Our orchestra year starts from July to June, so it is time to pay for your re-enrolment fee: $25 each. We will be using majoy part of the money to buy some beginner instruments, focusing on brass (Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn etc), and make available for people to borrow to learn, and later join the orchestra.
It seems that eBay have some good deals (1/3 to 1/10 of the cost of 'proper' instruments). Even though I know those cheap ones are no professional quality - but it is still a good start (if they are really bad we can resell on eBay again) ^o^
¡@
Preview of events after July 2007:
After the July Practice, orchestra will not play in the Granny Smith festival (we've been playing for 3 years and it's time to let other groups in our church to have a go). Instead, we will participate in the Sydney Hymn Festival in the 13th October (Sat) evening in Salvation Army Congress Hall in Sydney. Imagine about 400-600 people singing traditional hymn (in Chinese) and we are accompanying for the event!
It is also likely that I will invite musicians from other churches to join in this event - because I know around that time is music exam period and some of you may not be available. Even you can't go to the event please also come to practice.
We haven't plan for Christmas yet but if you have some idea please let us know. Otherwise we may try to attempt part of Handel's Messiah.
